The attachment mechanism on the factory 590S cartridge arrestor is not very robust, so we modified our patent-pending Universal Minishell Adapter to fix this problem, and we are now offering it in an upgrade kit for the 590S.  Works with Defender Tactical Mini-Pro System as well.

This kit is compatible with any Mossberg 12-Gauge 590S pump-action firearm with machined grooves in the receiver.  Please refer to the picture or the installation video below to confirm your firearm's compatibility, but we've never seen a Mossberg pump-action firearm without these grooves.  The arrestor is constructed from vulcanized thermoplastic rubber, and the follower is machined from solid 6061-T6 billet aluminum.

*The Cartridge Arrestor and Magazine Follower are optimized to function as a pair, but the factory and other aftermarket followers may function as well for those that do not wish to use the one provided.

Great little upgrade

Perfect fit, and no initial bind in shell tube

Works like they say.

Easy, secure install. Wasn't going to use the included follower but it was too nice not to.

Mixed up different brands and length shells in the tube and they all fed smoothly.

Will be buying another.

Addendum

I had already cycled 25 2 3/4 shells through the gun before trying it with 1 3/4 shells. My sons and I took the gun out today (4 July 2023) and fired 125 2 3/4 shells, mixed #8 and #4 buck. We tested 1 3/4 shells after every 25 shells. After a total of 150 fired and dry cycled shells the gun seems to be reliable with 1 3/4 shells. I fired 40 Federal shorty #8 shotshells through the gun and had 2 misfeeds, these were likely me short cycling the gun or it being dirty. Both happened after I had fired 30 rounds, the gun had not been cleaned after the 125 2 3/4 shells. The gun was cleaned and my sons and I dry cycled 50 1 3/4 shells with no malfunctions. I do notice you need to be a little more positive at each end of the action stroke, when cycling with 1 3/4 shells vs 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells.

What has been aggravating is the kits I installed in my wife's Mossberg 500 and daughter's Maverick 88 were 100% reliable after cycling about a dozen 2 3/4 shells in each gun.

Does not work in my gun

I decided to see if the kit would work in my 590S Tactical. The gun is 100% reliable with the factory parts. I wanted to try what I hoped were more durable components. My shotgun fails to feed about 25% of the time and when it jams, the shell is usually flipped backwards in the lifter.

Hello Ron, we're sorry you are having trouble with your cartridge arrestor, but don't worry you have a full Lifetime Warranty on it so you are covered.

We recommend running 4-5 magazines of 2-3/4” shells thru the firearm after installation to seat and break-in the arrestor. This can be dry-cycle in a safe location, you don’t need to fire the rounds. This usually clears up any issues with the arrestor.

If you’ve tried that and are still having problems, we can send you a replacement to try, or we can give you a full refund, no problem.

Better design

This newly designed adapter is a much more robust design as compared to the factory arrestor. I installed the Defender Tactical adapter in my Shockwave 590S and had no issues cycling 1.75, 2.75, and the hefty 3-inch shells. In fact, I cycled the shotgun with nearly 20 shorty shells with no problems before I started shooting at the hanging target at the range. Why? I wanted to be sure the function of the shotgun was proven to work. If you compare the factory arrestor to the newly designed adapter there is a huge difference in strength and dependability. On a side note, great company and top-notch customer service.
